CFP – Future of Intercultural Theatre: Pedagogy and Performance Practice

  A discussion on cross-cultural performance interactions in the UK universities are more significant than ever within the changing political landscape of Britain. Critical debates on intercultural theatre has recently taken a back seat in the current academic discourse.  A number of questions emerge in this context: Is intercultural theatre taught in UK universities? What is the methodological approach in devising and designing a course on intercultural theatre in the UK academia? How does cross-cultural and multi-ethnic performance practices influence and shape intercultural pedagogical practice in the UK? To what extent theatre training in the UK universities and schools of drama benefit from cross-cultural exchanges? Asian Performance and Diaspora working group intends to revisit the debate on intercultural theatre practice, this time from a pedagogical perspective and invites workshops, lecture demonstrations, reflections on teaching practice and paper presentations on the following broader themes, although not limited:
  • The future of intercultural theatre in the UG and PG courses in the UK
  • Intercultural theatre training in UK schools of drama
  • Training: Concepts, methods, pedagogy and artistic practices;
  • Eclecticism, fusion and the problems of Intercultural paradigm;
