ELECTIONS: Deputy Research Officer and PG representative

TaPRA is calling for expressions of interest from colleagues who may wish to join the Association’s Executive Committee. There are two vacancies in the Committee: 1) for a Deputy Research Officer and 2) for a Postgraduate Representative.The deadline for nominations is Friday 13th January 2017 (extended deadline).

You must be a TaPRA member to take either of these roles for 4 years. For the PG Representative post, you must be enrolled (full-time or part-time) as a PG Student in a UK HE institution and your term in office lasts either for 4 years or less, depending on completion of PhD.

If you are interested in standing for either of the posts, please email a 300-400 word statement to tapraexec@gmail.com signed by two TaPRA members who support your nomination. If there are more than one nominations for each post, we will go to ballot soon after the deadline.

The Deputy Research Officer will take office shortly after their election, before February 2017. They will work closely with Research Development Officer Dr Jo Robinson during the judging of this year’s TaPRA Prizes.

The PG Representative will be required to shadow the current officers before September when they will take office in the Salford conference. The main duties of the Deputy Research Officer are:

1.     To assist the Research Officer in promoting the research of the TaPRA community

2.    To assist the Research Officer in organising TaPRA’s research awards (David Bradby award; ECR award and PG Essay Award). This includes being part of the prize judging panel for all awards and helping organize feedback to nominees. The DRO will lead the organization of the PG Essay Award.

3.     To assist working groups in development of the TaPRA Early Career Researcher Fellowships.

The main duties of the PG Representatives are:

1.    To report to the Exec about PG activities and issues and to work closely with other Exec officers to promote the PG research community.

2.    To represent the TaPRA PG community in other national and international events.

3.    To plan, organize and host one dedicated postgraduate symposium event per annum.

4.    To liaise between the TaPRA executive committee and conference organisers regarding the needs of postgraduates in relation to the Annual Conference.

5.    To organize the postgraduate Welcome event and informative lectures on career development and research skills at the annual conference.
